The best SEO audit tools in Australia, compared.

Six tools that read your website and tell you what is wrong with it. Each price below is the one shown on that tool's own pricing page on 22 October 2026. Each verdict says who the tool is for, and who should keep their money. SEOLUTION publishes this page and is one of the tools compared.

The short answer.

You own one business website.

You want a plain list of what to fix, in order, checked again every night, priced in AU$ with GST. That is SEOLUTION, AU$129/mo or AU$99/mo on an annual plan. Pair it with Google Search Console, which is free.

You run SEO for clients, or in-house.

You need keyword research, rank tracking and competitor links as well as an audit. Semrush or Ahrefs, from $129 to $139 a month on monthly billing. SE Ranking is the cheaper full toolkit at $103.20 a month on an annual plan.

You want one deep technical check.

Screaming Frog. Free up to 500 pages, £199 a year beyond that. It finds a lot and orders nothing, so budget the time to read it.

Each tool, one by one.

SEOLUTION

What it does. Reads your website every night, the way Google and the AI answer engines read it, and turns what it finds into a roadmap: one plain task per problem, in the order worth doing, each with an estimated effect on your Google visibility and on your AI visibility. Fix a task and it is marked verified on site the next morning. Connect Search Console and GA4 and you see what each fix did to your traffic.

Where it falls short. It is not a keyword research tool and it does not analyse your competitors' links. Starter covers 1 site and 3 competitors; Growth covers up to 5 sites and 10 competitors. If you want the fixes done for you, that work is quoted separately.

Price. Starter AU$129/mo, or AU$99/mo on an annual plan. Growth AU$299/mo, or AU$249/mo annual. AU$, GST included. Every account starts on a 14-day trial with no card, and you cancel from your billing page.

Google Search Console

What it does. Google's own free report on your site: which pages it has listed, which it could not, which searches bring you clicks, and warnings about speed and mobile problems. It is the only place Google itself reports what it did with your site.

Where it falls short. It reports problems; it does not explain them or tell you which to fix first. It only covers Google, so it says nothing about how AI answer engines read your site.

Price. Free. Every site owner should have it, whatever else they buy.

Screaming Frog SEO Spider

What it does. A program you install on your computer. It reads every page of a site and lists every technical fault: missing titles, broken links, slow images, pages Google is told not to list. SEO professionals have used it for years, and it is a standard choice for a one-off deep check.

Where it falls short. It gives you a spreadsheet, not a plan. Nothing is ordered by importance, nothing is explained for a business owner. The free version only runs when you run it; the paid licence can be scheduled, but your computer has to be on.

Price. Free up to 500 pages. £199 a year for more, limited only by your computer, as shown on 22 October 2026.

SE Ranking

What it does. A full SEO toolkit: website audit, rank tracking, keyword research and competitor research. The audit can be scheduled, and the Core plan covers 10 projects and 250,000 pages per account, which is more than most businesses will ever need.

Where it falls short. It is built for people who do SEO for a living. A business owner gets a score and a long list of issues written in the industry's words.

Price. Core $129 a month, or $103.20 a month on an annual plan. Growth $279 a month, or $223.20 annual. A 14-day free trial. Prices as shown on 22 October 2026.

Ahrefs Site Audit

What it does. Part of one of the best-known SEO platforms. Site Audit reads your site on a schedule and explains each issue clearly. The rest of Ahrefs is a large link index and a strong keyword tool.

Where it falls short. The paid plans are priced for professionals, and the audit is one tab among many. Ahrefs Free gives you data on your own site and is worth having.

Price. Lite $129 a month with 100,000 audit credits, Standard $249, Advanced $449. A $29 Starter plan. The page says annual billing saves up to 17%. Prices as shown on 22 October 2026.

Semrush Site Audit

What it does. The other best-known platform. Site Audit is thorough and the SEO plan monitors 5 websites, with keyword research, rank tracking and AI visibility features alongside it.

Where it falls short. The pricing page does not say how many pages an audit covers on each plan. Like Ahrefs, you pay for a full toolkit when you may only want the audit.

Price. SEO plan $139 a month, or $117.33 a month on an annual plan. Starter $199 and Pro+ $299 monthly. A free plan with 1 demo project, and a 7-day free trial. Prices as shown on 22 October 2026.

Also worth knowing. Sitebulb is a desktop auditor with a cloud version from £95 a month, a 14-day trial, 10,000 pages per audit on its Lite plan and 500,000 on Pro; its desktop prices load only in the browser, so they are not quoted here. Many Australian agencies offer a "free SEO audit" page. It is a lead form; the audit arrives with a sales call.

Four questions before you pay.

  1. Does it tell me what to fix first? A list of 300 issues is not an audit. Look for an order, and for a reason behind the order.
  2. Can I understand it without an SEO? Read one issue. If you would have to search what the words mean, the tool was written for someone else.
  3. Does it check again after I fix something? A one-off report cannot tell you whether the fix worked. Nightly beats monthly, and monthly beats once.
  4. What does it cost in Australian dollars, with GST? Most tools show a $ figure with no currency named. Check what your card is charged.

Questions.

What is the best SEO audit tool for a small business in Australia?
The one that tells you what to fix, in order, in words you understand, and checks your site again after you fix it. For an Australian small business that is SEOLUTION: a nightly audit, a roadmap of plain tasks with an estimated effect on Google and on AI answers, and AU$ prices including GST. For an SEO agency or an in-house SEO team, Semrush or Ahrefs give far more data, at a higher price.
Is there a free SEO audit tool for Australian websites?
Yes. Google Search Console is free and shows what Google itself found on your site. Screaming Frog is free for sites up to 500 pages, but it is a desktop program that lists faults without ordering them. Ahrefs and Semrush have limited free plans. SEOLUTION is not free, but it starts with a 14-day trial, no card, and the first audit runs while you wait. Agency sites offering a free SEO audit usually want your phone number before the result.
How much does an SEO audit tool cost in Australia?
On 22 October 2026 the tools compared here ranged from free (Google Search Console, Screaming Frog up to 500 pages) to between $29 and $449 a month for Semrush, Ahrefs and SE Ranking, with their main plans between $129 and $299, shown on their pages in dollars with no currency named. SEOLUTION is AU$129 a month, or AU$99 a month on an annual plan, including GST.
How often should a website be audited?
Every night, if the tool can do it without you. A site changes whenever someone edits a page, adds a product or updates a plugin, and a problem found the day it appears is a small job. A one-off audit is a photo of one day.
Do I need Google Search Console as well as an audit tool?
Yes. Search Console is the only place Google tells you what it found on your site, and it is free. A good audit tool connects to it so you can see what each fix did to your clicks and impressions.
What is the difference between an SEO audit tool and an SEO tool?
An SEO audit tool reads your own website and lists what is wrong with it. A full SEO toolkit such as Semrush or Ahrefs also researches keywords, tracks rankings and analyses competitors' links. If you only own one site and want to know what to fix, you are paying for the audit part.
